Claiming Victory in 2013 – January 22th, 2013, by Danny J. Stevens

“Do or do not… there is no try.”
~ Yoda

Have you ever succeeded at something you have tried? When looking at and contemplating the word try, what comes to mind? The free dictionary, http://www.thefreedictionary.com/try, states it means to make an effort or attempt to do something. The very word seems to echo failure or halfheartedness. As Yoda rebuked Luke when he told Yoda he would try to use the force, you too should consider replacing try with do in your vocabulary!
My father would take out his pen and lay it on the table and dare you to try to pick it up. Most people will go for the pen and then dad would stop their hand. He would say, “I said try, not pick up the pen.” The word may have had other meanings but as a society it has turned in to a word which indicates a something less than getting it done. If you are trying to give the image of that of a go getter and you use the word try you do not look congruent.
