Preparation to Improving Goal Performance By Danny J. Stevens

I have never been an athlete, but I have and do have health and fitness goals.  I have been in the zone where my thoughts and actions were working together and I achieved the desired goal.  Anything we do is based on our mental conditioning.  An athlete will tell you that stretching before a workout or when performing is critical to avoid possible injury.  The athlete will also tell you that mental preparation separates the athlete from the top athlete.  They see themselves performing reaching the desired results.  Then concentrate on the vision of accomplishing their goals.

There are times when the athlete may fall short, but they still have still an attainable goal and reached a higher level than they would have without envisioning the goal.  After the match they will examine and refine the goal, envisioning how to make it happen on the next attempt.   One of Tony Robbins favorite example is to ask the audience, how long would you give your child the chance to learn how to walk before you do not allow them to try anymore?  Yet when the adult human attempts to reach a goal a few times they will often give up and reason that it is not attainable to them.  Where did that spirit go which drove the child to keep trying to walk?

In Day 22 or Giant Steps to 2012, what we are to do is post of dreams and goals somewhere where we can see them at least a couple times a day.  Reading them aloud and with the feeling that you are going to achieve the goal will help magnify the results.   Envision yourself talking the steps necessary to reach the goal.  Play the movie of seeing you do what needs to be done.  You have been conditioned your whole life.  Advertisers are conditioning you to buy and think of their products.  Take this test;

What comes to mind when you hear?

1.)     Mayhem Happens.

2.)    You are in good hands with…

3.)    When it rains, it pours

4.)    How do you spell relief?

5.)    Where do you want to go today?

Remember the Reticular Activating System (RAS)?  Mental conditioning is conditioning the RAS to filter that information so that you are aware of it being around you.  Writing down your goals involves a physical action.  Reading the goals involves engaging the eyes, brains and speech.   At first, you may hear yourself saying, “This is a lie, or who am I kidding.”  As the thoughts however become more congruent with your actions this will fade away.  Thoughts become things.  Written words tend to take on a life of their own.  You become hung by your tongue!
