Damn the Torpedoes by Danny J. Stevens

Day 31, Giant Steps in to 2012.

In reflection of your life, what is something you enjoy or experience today that was just a dream or goal in your past?  What did it take to get to enjoy or experience this item?  You likely had things come against you and maybe even things which could have stopped your pursuit but you made it!  You have done this before, and you can do it again and again!

Success does not always go to the stronger or faster person.   Success does come to the person who believes they can.  This quote, although altered a bit to ensure everyone is included, states a simple truth.  All dreams and goals are accomplished twice; Once in the mind, and then again in the material world.    If you have the idea to build a deck, it lacks power without action.  However, the more you develop the idea and write it down the more it takes shape.  Soon you would have the blueprints of the deck, and steps you would need to take to reach the completion.  Then you need the materials and devotion of time to complete the task.

During January, this exactly what has been laid out before you!  You have been creating dreams and goals, you have been creating blueprints, are they vague images or can you see the finished product?   You may state you don’t know how, if you can see it, what are the steps you need to complete it?   Maybe one of the first steps is to spend a short time researching?  Do not get caught up in analyzing if you are doing everything exactly perfect.   You might have to make some modifications, you might have to tear it apart and then rebuild, but you are moving closer to the realization of your dream or goal.

I remember watching my mom crochet.  She would have an idea of what it was she wanted to create and had envisioned it in her mind and she would set out to create the object.  More than once, I would see her unraveling the yarn and destroying her work and then she would start for a certain point and move forward.   The restarts were likely because she did not have as detailed of plan worked out as she needed but she was able to compensate and still reach the objective.  I am sure you have had similar stumbles.  Maybe you walked away when the obstacles looked too menacing?  Maybe you were closer to achieving the goal or dream than you realized?

Joel Osteen tells the story of his climb to the summit of a certain mountain.  The hike to the summit would take a couple hours so he set out on the hike.  The way was steep and during the climb he began to focus on the time and wondering where he was in relation to the summit.  He was getting tired and he had calculated he should be near the summit but the goal was not in site.  He was thinking about turning back when he met another climber coming down.  The other climber told him he was closer than he thought.  How many times maybe have we been close to reaching our goals and dreams sand we turned back?   Do we have the support system who will give us feedback as we head towards our goals?

We may be closer than what we think to accomplish our goals and dreams.   Regardless of the obstacles, no matter what we are resolved to reach and obtain that which we seek.  I am not sure of the origin of the saying but we need to adopt this resolve; damn the torpedoes, Full speed ahead!
