Reflection on a Famous Quote – February 11 Quote, by Danny J. Stevens

“We are what we repeatedly do; excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”

– Aristotle, BC 384-322, Greek Philosopher

If we are what we repeatedly do, than who we are today is not who we can become.   We become what we think about most of the time.   Earl Nightingale spoke about this in his famous talk, “The Strangest Secret.”   I am sure Earl Nightingale had read this quote from Aristotle as he practiced excellence and self mastery in his life and profession.  Earl created this in life by creating successful habits.

One habit Earl had was to review the day just before retiring, and produce a list of things which needed to be done the next day.  The next morning he took the list and started work on item number 1 until it was completed and then started to work on item number 2.  If he didn’t complete all the items on the list they would go on the list for the next day.
