Reflection on a Famous Quote – February 22, by Danny J. Stevens

“The great thing in the world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving.”

~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

I once went in to a job interview and the man asked me, “What can you do for me?”  I started to explain what I have done and he stopped me.   He replied, “I am not interested in your past, everyone has a past or they wouldn’t be looking for work.  What is it you will do for me?  The past is past, the future is not here yet, and all there is now!  The past cannot be re-lived; the future is not ours until it becomes the present.

You are not your past.   Even if your past has been fantastic and totally successful it is the past.  Have you ever met someone who is boasting about something from their past and it is not who they are today?  If you are not moving forward you losing ground.  I love the Microsoft slogan, “Where do you want to go today?”
