Making Three Decisions –  by Danny J. Stevens

After I accomplished a physical feat I almost did not complete because I let fear talk to me, manifesting the thoughts in to reality.  I was given a gift by the facilitator.  It was a rock with the following words, “What would you do if you knew you could not fail?”  The rock now sits on the counter in my bathroom.  I see it when I get ready for the day, when I end the day and in between.

I am an amateur genealogist.  I dig up memories of relatives and will examine the grave yards.   One thing I found interesting is that a common phrase is often engraved on tombstones or markers which reads, “Dum Tacet Clamant.”  It is Latin and I am told it translates to “Even in his silence, he speaks.”  When I look at that rock it speaks!   As Captain Picard can hear the Borg after he was assimilated I see the rock and relive the experience.   I don’t hear the fear but I am reminded that it subsided once I faced the fear.  I had a choice being pushed off the log twenty feet off the ground and guided to safety or to trust my friends, ignore the mind chatter and step out.   There were further challenges before crossing Steve on the log to get to the other side by we made it happen.

Today reminds me of making New Year’s Resolutions.   So be it!  I have decided to do;

1.)    Write at least this column daily, throughout 2012.

2.)  Improve my health by exercising  –  in 2004 I had hired a personal trainer and was in

The best shape of my life.  He stated I would feel miserable if I didn’t keep a regular routine. With my schedule this is not easy to do.

3.)   Bring my skills with Windows Server and Exchange up to date.   Setting aside time to read and work on  CBT training

What three decisions are you going to make?  Willing to share with the rest of us?

  5. I do enjoy the way you have framed this specific concern and it really does provide us a lot of fodder for thought. On the other hand, through what I have observed, I really hope when the actual reviews pile on that folks keep on point and don’t embark upon a tirade associated with some other news du jour. Yet, thank you for this outstanding piece and though I can not necessarily concur with the idea in totality, I regard the perspective.
